Of 1,076 festivals by the sea, only 280 publish a month. Here is what the dated ones say about the season.
2 min readThe Beachfests journal is written from the same data as the directory: 1,076 festivals held by the sea, 16 of them on the beach itself, in 76 countries. Its 4 articles look at what the figures show: when the festivals happen, which coasts have the most, what a film or music festival changes when the sea is next door, and how organisers can get listed.
The journal is divided into 4 sections: Coasts & seasons, Film & arts by the sea, Music & beach life and Organisers’ corner. Use the filters at the top of the page to read one section at a time. Each article is dated, and its figures match the directory at the time of writing; the page of sources and method says where every number comes from.
When an article makes you curious about a place, open the list of countries, check the months on the tide calendar, or look at the festivals held on the beach. Beachfests is an independent, unofficial directory: it does not sell tickets, it does not rank festivals, and every listing links to the festival’s own website for dates and programme.
